WeHeartHorror and Cryptic Pictures Present Mortal Remains: London 2014
By Andreas Charalambous - 2nd January 2014
About Mortal Remains
Mortal Remains has been described as a "shockumentary" which aims to uncover the details surrounding the life, career and mysterious death of Karl Atticus – a horror filmmaker from the Baltimore, Maryland area. Last seen during the summer of 1973, Atticus is a mysterious figure who has been referred to as the "forgotten father" of the modern slasher film.
Filmed on location in Maryland and Pennsylvania, the film sets out to establish and confirm the legacy of this enigmatic man who inspired a generation of horror filmmakers. Revealing interviews with authorities on the horror genre and crew members who worked with him reveal the mysterious circumstances in which his final film, Mortal Remains - considered by many to be the holy grail of horror films - was made. Rumours of cast members going missing, allegations of occult activity and recollections of special effects that were "too convincing" for their time are only a few of the details in this fascinating film.
As we delve deeper into the legend of Karl Atticus, we are presented with the question: Was he a genuine auteur who challenged the industry, and was ultimately silenced for being ahead of his time?
Inconsistencies surrounding the investigation of Atticus’ apparent suicide have only added to this influential figure's near-mythic status.
